Apple has designed the iWork Suite to help you increase your productivity and introduce perfectionism into your Work. We, previously, talked in detail about the Keynote app that forms an important part of iWork Suite. Today, we will focus on the Pages app that allows you to be a writer one minute and a designer in the next minute. Pages app is a powerful tool that facilitates creating professional documents easily on your iPhone, iPad or iPod and then spread it where ever you want. Pages app is both a streamlined word processor and an easy-to-use page layout tool. It does not allow you to type in text only rather provide some advanced writing options which help you format your document easily. You can start from a wide variety of available templates and customize it to design your document. Pages app, like the keynote app, is a sophisticated tool with easy to use interface. Create with the Streamlined Word Processor:
Pages app is designed to combine the power of word processing software and the page layout tool along with some other facilities. This streamlined word processor assists you a lot in creating your documents. When you will use it for the first time, an introductory tour will be offered which will tell you about the options it has for you. It will be a better choice to enjoy this tour and explore the advanced options so as to make full use of the available features. The menu bar at the top lets you do the basic formatting such as font selection, list formatting, spell checker, adjust line spacing and paragraph alignments, and text color.
Time to present your document professionally? Add headers, footers, footnotes, endnotes and bookmarks with a few taps. Keep a word count check and insert sections, layout and page breaks form a simple pull down menu. You must be thinking now that it won’t be easy to create and edit an entire document in a screen too small as compared to your PC or laptop’s screen? Well, Pages app has something which will make creating documents more fun to you even on your iPhone.
Zoom In/Out with the Smart Zoom:
You will definitely admire this Smart Zoom feature that won’t let you miss your 15’’ or 17’’ inch screens. It zooms in on the text you are editing while you are editing it. Enjoy the full view of your document when done with editing. While reading a review I came to know that Pages app is able to display about ten lines of text and about 40 characters depending on the size of the font one is using. Smart Zoom makes the text large enough to read easily as you type and can accommodate several sentences at the screen so that you can keep a track of what were you writing. When you feel that the document is growing larger in size; drag your finger along the right hand side of the page and the magnifying tool will display thumbnail view of your page and its page number. Navigate through your document easily by moving your finger and the page is taken up or down accordingly.
Design with the Page Layout:
Usually, when we have to create a document we gather the appropriate material first and focus our attention to the text in document. Then the next step of editing where we format our document with some basic tools as mentioned above. So, writing and editing is completed; time to make it visually appealing now? OMG! I do not believe it, Apple provides you over 180 templates of professionally polished resume, brochure, school report, or invitations and all you need to do is to customize it according to your specifications. Insert your well edited text in the text placeholders and select your photos from the Media Library. Now, use the Template Chooser to quickly skim, preview, and resize each thumbnail. You can add charts and tables in your document to improve the readability or copy paste charts from Numbers app. Insert graphics and apply different modifications with the powerful graphics tools that lets you resize, crop, add shadows, reflections or other such effects to enhance it. Not only graphics, but you can play with your text as well and control the way it looks, it flows or wrap around images.
Outline mode helps you organize your ideas in a better way. You can create an outline with multiple levels, expand or collapse topics etc. For example, if you are making a report, your report will contain some basic levels such as table of contents, preface, introduction, chapter1, chapter2 etc. Topics in chapter1 and chapter2 will form the sublevels. So, you see here this thumbnail and outline mode will help you manage the overall view of your report. Mail merge takes your data from Numbers or your contacts from Address Book to create personalized letters, invoices, and faxes. No matter whatever you design, Retina display make it looks stunning and brighter.
Share with the Pages App:
You can save your documents as Word Files, RTF files or as PDF files. Now you have all the sharing options open to you…upload your documents in the iBook or email it to your friends. Save it as the Word Files or open your Word Files in Pages. Pages app is well integrated with iCloud so enjoy your single document in all your i-devices. You can leave your editing in the iPad anywhere and Pages app will auto save it. When you will log in to your iPhone and open the document, you can continue your work from the same point from where you left off. Share your documents over the clouds via iCloud.
