Before October 23, 2001 Apple was a very different industry! The stock prices were just $9 and nobody really thought that ten years down the line this Company would become the biggest giant of the technology world! Dressed in the black turtle neck and a Blue jeans the then CEO late Steve Jobs told the world that what he had was a stunning device that would change the world forever. Little did everybody believe him and his sight but after ten years we can really acknowledge the fact that that device not only did change the music world but it reinvented the whole technology market!
The birth of iPod
Even in 2001 the rumors had started to flow in the market about the latest device that would b on offer from Apple Inc. Some of the rumor sites did roll out some information regarding the Apple iPod and that was it! Steve Jobs then on October 23, 2001 released the product and the Mac Journal published an article about the same! As all great things the iPod was revolted at first. Some of the comments on the Mac journal were definitely an interesting read.
“hey – here an idea Apple – rather than enter the world of gimmicks and toys, why don’t you spend a little more time sorting out your pathetically expensive and crap server line up?”
“I still can’t believe this! All this hype for something so ridiculous! Who cares about an MP3 player? I want something new! I want them to think differently!
Why oh why would they do this?! It’s so wrong! It’s so stupid!”
“iPoop… iCry. I was so hoping for something more.”
This should that definitely the iPod was not taken so well at that time. It was even evident from the initial sales. Later in July 2002 Apple even added a 20 GB version and the device compatible with windows which definitely helped in increasing the sales a little. But then the income of $143 million was definitely lackluster in front of the Mac sales that were going up!
The rise to fame
2003 was the year of iPods. With the launch of iTunes Apple said that they had launched a way of legal downloading and iTunes definitely helped the iPod to reach to a success where it is today and earn the status of a legendary device!
The third generation iPod were now in the market. It had USB 2.0 and fire wire and thus everything that would ensure that you could transfer data fast and easy! Apple now reported 1million iPod sales and 6 months another million sales had been reported and after 18 months Apple had sold 3 million iPods.
Then in Jan 2004 the iPod mini was rolled out with the click wheel feature and was available in multi-color. Then came the first color variant of iPod in January 2005 and was really welcome and loved! Then suddenly Apple changed the product mini with the iPod nano with just 4GB storage. October 2005 saw the rise of fifth generation iPod with eventually up to 80 GB storage! And then in September 2006 the time known as the music fall event of iPod came the second generation of iPod shuffle!
The fall
None could have thought that one of the most popular music devices would so quickly be out staged and that too by one of the products of Apple. In 2007 after the launch of iPhone which Jobs described as their best ever iPod the sales of iPod gradually came down. Though it was still released in a lot of variants and the latest one that you would find in the market is super slim and super cool but then it made way for one of the Products that has revolutionized the cell phone industry!
